Media Release - Rental Inspections Response

Property Management leader slams call to cancel rental inspections

A call by a property management commentator to cancel routine rental inspections because of the Coronavirus has been dismissed as irresponsible by the owner of Pukeko Rental Managers, David Pearse.

“It’s about using common sense. Houses need to be inspected to maintain insurance cover and there are simple ways to keep property managers safe when conducting these,” Mr Pearse says.

Each Pukeko Rental Managers will be wearing disposable gloves, keeping two metres away from tenants and limiting inspections to 15 minutes. “We’ve also made sure our tenants let us know if anyone in the house is self-isolating,” says Mr Pearse.

Video inspections will also be used by Pukeko managers if anyone in the house is diagnosed with Coronavirus.

“There are simple ways for property managers, tenants and insurers to get through this critical period without the need for commentators to offer unthought out and inaccurate advice,” Mr Pearse concludes.

Pukeko Rental Managers is a franchise with 28 franchisees scattered across New Zealand. It limits its property managers to 100 clients each, while it won the Supreme Award at last year’s Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards.
